What About Music

What About Music (WAM) offer people of all ages, abilities, and disabilities the chance to unlock the melodies of their hearts by learning the basic skills required that are employable. This program is designed to promote creativity, self-worth, self-esteem and provide communication that is universal in the world we live in.

WAM Skill Modules combine music with life necessities and requirements.

  • Music expression has no right or wrong way. Music expression, combined with communication development, modifies what is acceptable in the workforce.

 

  • ​Vocal training is essential to controlling the voice pitch to deliver an acceptable and pleasant tone to the listener. Vocal training, combined with speech delivery, promotes articulation to be heard understood with clarity and dignity.

​​

  • Musical instrument training includes rhythm, measures, and memory. This skill, combined with the job application process, promotes completion. There is a start and a finish.

​​

  • Music technical training allows the participants to learn how to press the right buttons at the right time, edit, and correct the necessities for a successful outcome. This skill, combined with resume writing, promotes relevancy to a sought-after job with focus, clarity, and qualifying experiences.

  • Music math drills are mind stimulants that include basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Participants will learn to use whatever is necessary to find the correct answer. This skill, combined with critical thinking, promotes job readiness for cashiers, bank tellers, account managers, and a host of other related fields.

 

More choices of instrumental expression are offered upon special interest and request.

Who is eligible?

  • Those diagnosed with Developmental Disabilities or Mental Health Illness –will learn the basic operations of music expression and be afforded the opportunity to choose their own tool, i.e., voice, instrument, or technical recording expression.  

 

What will they learn?

  •  Music note identification and how, when played together, harmony is created. Promotes memorization, unity, and cohesiveness. Keyboard expression.​

  • The importance of timing and how it makes room for mistakes, setbacks, and recalculations. The key is just getting there before the time is up. Promotes endurance even when all odds seem to be out of favor with the participant. 

 

How do they benefit?

  •  The music numbering system will be used as opposed to traditional sheet music, so the learning of music is basic math and listening techniques. (note: In music therapy, there are no right or wrong answers) Promotes memorization and focus.

  • The musical genre of the participants will be considered, which will strengthen the goal of achieving their music's best expression of communication. Promotes clarity to what may normally be misinterpreted or misunderstood. 

​​

  • The participants will be given an ample amount of study halls, in order to complete assignments and practice what they have learned. Promotes positive dialog that will encourage individuals to grasp what they have learned and taken ownership of their newfound way of expression. (The personal touch)

  • The participants will end their self-paced session with a presentation of their learned skills. This will be open to the community, and achievement certificates will be awarded. Promotes community service, public performance, vision enhancement, earning from what they have learned, and hope for a productive future.
